Create a beautiful Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake!

This month we bring to you our latest ‘Cooking with Liv‘ recipe for “Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake.
Ingredients:
For the Caramel Sauce
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2–3 Honeycrisp apples, thinly sliced
For the Cake Batter
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- ⅓ cup whole milk
- ⅓ cup sour cream
Instructions
Prepare the Caramel Topping
- In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the butter and brown sugar, stirring continuously until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
- Pour the caramel sauce into the bottom of a greased 10-inch round cake pan. 3. Arrange the sliced apples evenly over the caramel in a single layer.
Make the Cake Batter
- In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract. 3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. 4. In another small bowl, stir together the milk and sour cream until smooth. 5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk/ sour cream mixture, mixing just until combined.
Assemble and Bake
Carefully pour the cake batter over the apples and caramel in the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
